Meet The Presbyterian Church of Coshocton:
The Presbyterian Church of Coshocton was founded in 1818 in Keene, Ohio, and met in private homes for several years. The congregation erected the first church building in Coshocton proper in 1834, and the current facility hosted its first service in 1905. During its over 200-year lifespan, the members of the congregation have been active not only within the church walls but also in the local community. The church services follow The Service for the Lord’s Day of the Book of Common Worship, but also include more recent understandings of ways to worship: children’s moments, sermons in music, skits and puppets, Powerpoint and video presentations, candle-lighting ceremonies, and many others. The Presbyterian Church of Coshocton is honored to host ecumenical activities open to folks in the community, such as Lenten Luncheons, Vacation Bible School, community dinners, and a monthly worship service at a local assisted living community. Presbyterian members are active in outreach and have continued to offer service to the area with monetary donations as well as in-person ministry, such as hosting summer activities with children at a local low-income housing development. Offerings of music in many genres have been a staple of this congregation for decades, hosting as many as 8 different choirs rehearsing weekly, as well as being the home of the Coshocton Community Choir and its offshoots until 2021. For many years, the building and facilities have been shared with the Coshocton Montessori Preschool, and after a recent fire, Grace United Methodist Church members relocated to this building while they work to rebuild. Due to the recent pandemic, services became available to view online for the congregation at home, and continue to be either streamed or uploaded for members to enjoy from the comfort of their homes. As the Coshocton area moves forward from this challenging time, the Presbyterian Church of Coshocton hopes to continue to minister to its members and the community and find new ways to bring God’s Love and Word to others.
