Russell Gasero Festschrift
On June 30, Russell Gasero retired after forty-two years as Archivist of the Reformed Church in America. He created the modern RCA Archives we all enjoy, where our records and memory are safely stored and easily accessed. He has managed miles of records that make the governance of our denomination more efficient and have helped us through multiple legal situations. And he has built a program that daily assists congregations and scholars all over the world.
The RCA Commission on History is working on honoring Russ with a festschrift—literally a “celebration book,” a collection of essays being written by a dozen men and women from across the RCA. Their essays will examine various topics that he has helped the church explore. This book will be published by The Historical Series of the Reformed Church in America, and will be ready in time for General Synod 2021.
You are invited to be part of this volume in three ways:
- Become a sponsor of this volume by contributing $50 toward its publication. Scroll down to make your gift. If we receive your gift by November 1, 2020, your name will be listed in the initial pages as a sponsor and we will send to you a copy.
- Contribute to a special chapter in the festschrift: “What I Learned in the Archives.” Send your favorite story of working with Russ, in 100 words or less, and a one-sentence description of who you are (example: “John Henry Livingston is a retired General Synod professor and past president of New Brunswick Theological Seminary.”) to JBrumm@nbts.edu by December 1, 2020.
- Pass the word along: If you know somebody who has worked with Russ but might not have gotten this note, share it with her or him.
Thank you for your participation in this gift in honor of Russ and in marking this moment in RCA history, as we honor the great ministry to the church and to each of us.
