Facilities Specialist

Facilities Specialist (5-10 Hours Per Week)

New Brunswick Theological Seminary (NBTS) is seeking a detail-oriented and skilled Facilities Specialist to support the smooth operation and maintenance of our campus. The Facilities Specialist will perform skilled and semi-skilled maintenance and repair work across a range of systems and infrastructure, and coordinate with external vendors when necessary. This position is essential to ensuring that our facilities are functional, safe, and welcoming for all students, faculty, and staff.

This is a casual part-time position with flexible hours.  Hourly rate is based on experience.

Position description

Title: Facilities Specialist

Accountable to: Facilities and Event Manager

Hours: Casual, Hourly

Position Summary:

The specialist assists with smooth facilities operations and maintenance by performing skilled and semi-skilled maintenance and repair work and coordinating with outside vendors when necessary, as requested.

Responsibilities:

  • Receives, manages, and processes work order requests.
  • Repairs and maintains machinery, equipment, plumbing, physical structures, electrical wiring, and fixtures, as requested.
  • Performs small repairs like patching walls, painting, replacing doors, and fixing minor carpentry issues, as requested. 
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance, as requested.
  • Acts as liaison with outside contractors needed to resolve specialized facilities problems.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma and some vocational education in one or more of the building, mechanical, and electrical trades.
  • At least four years work experience in facilities maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of facilities trades and minor construction.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, manuals, and building codes.
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate situations in the context of established goals and objective.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare reports; making mathematical calculations. accurately.
  • Knowledge of operating and caring for electrical, carpentry, plumbing, and construction hand and power tools.
  • Ability to engage in critical thinking and exercise independent judgment.
  • Demonstrated excellence in verbal, written, intercultural and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with other staff and faculty and maintain collegial relations.
  • Demonstrated excellence in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with a wide variety of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Commitment and understanding to working with a diverse and multicultural educational environment. Understanding of and comfort with Anti-Racism is a must.
