POSITION TYPE: Part-time – 20 hours per week
POSITION SUMMARY
The General Synod Council of the Reformed Church in America is committed to living into a multicultural and multiracial future freed from racism. The supervisor of Race Relations and Advocacy, a team member within The Center for Church Ministry and Multiplication (The Center), will provide visionary, strategic and innovative leadership to the work of the race relations and advocacy efforts of the RCA by encouraging and assisting RCA leaders and churches to focus on systemic causes of injustice to dismantle racism, engaging all of God’s people in mission and ministry and resisting the sin of racism.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
1. Lead the development, design and implementation of the race relations and advocacy efforts of the RCA.
2. Lead the yearly day of prayer and fasting for racial justice and reconciliation.
3. Ensure the GSC staff is offered opportunities and resources to increase knowledge and ability on the subject of racial justice, ensuring GSC staff policies and practices are open to all people and free from systemic racism.
4. Actively participate as a team member of The Center, ensuring awareness of racial justice, and integretation of equitable practices with, the Church Ministry and Church Multiplication efforts.
5. Supervise the Coordinator for Disability Concerns and engage with staff, leaders, and churches ensuring the gifts of women and people with disabilities are used in the life, ministry and mission of the church.
6. Create a framework and rubric to facilitate the execution of the denominations multiracial/multicultural strategy.
7. Assist with racial ethnic analytics, including tracking metrics, generating reports to show trends and communicating impact of diversity programs and initiatives across de denomination.
8. Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION:
Supervision Received: General Direction – The supervisor provides continuing or individual assignments by indicating generally what is to be done, limitations, quality and quantity expected, deadlines and priorities.
Supervision Responsibilities: May supervise one to three employees, providing general direction for the initiative.
ESSENTIAL QUALICIFICATIONS:
1. Committed to the mission and vision of the RCA.
2. Bachelor’s degree in social justice, education, ministry, or related field.
3. A minimum of five years of experience in helping the church in the area of racial ethnic justice.
4. A minimum of five years of experience working in a leadership role where development, design and implementation of a strategic plan was accomplished.
5. Proven networking experience engaging and connecting to diverse groups and individuals.
6. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience facilitating conversations and making presentations.
7. Ability to work with minimal supervision and make independent judgement calls.
8. Ability to travel 10-20 days a year.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Master’s degree in education, ministry, religion, or a related field.
2. Ordained Minister of Word and Sacrament or Commissioned Pastor.
