Learn about Islam in Muscat, Oman!
July 9, 2019
New Brunswick Theological Seminary, in cooperation with the Al Amana Center for Christian- Muslim Dialogue in Muscat, Oman, is seeking up to 15 members of the NBTS community for an eight day immersion experience in Oman. The cost of the stay in Oman is being reduced from $2,600 to $1,500 (plus travel).
For up to ten current students (and graduates from the class of 2018 and 2019 who wish to participate), the NBTS Center for Global Education will provide a $750 scholarship toward the above $1,500 ground expenses in Muscat, on a first-come first-served basis. Airfare is the responsibility of each participant (in 2016/7 ranged between $850-$1230/person-roundtrip). We hope to offer a 3-credit course connected with the trip, and for those who register, an additional $300 scholarship will be provided. We invite you to consider this immersion experience which is scheduled to depart United States on December 27, 2019 and return on January 4, 2019 (schedule tentative, subject to changes).
The Omani experience will begin on December 28th and conclude on the evening of January 4th, which means travel will need to commence by Dec 27th with a return the evening of January 5th.
In order for the travel experience to take place, all registration materials will need to be submitted no later than October 15th together with a deposit of $750. Click here to download the registration form. Students will be given priority in this once in a lifetime opportunity, with faculty, staff, and alumni invited upon availability of space. For inquiry or registration, please email: underwoodcenter@nbts.edu
The eight-day experience will include dialogue with Muslim students, an introduction to Islamic theological studies, as well travel in and around Muscat. Oman is considered by many to be one of the most stable of all Middle Eastern countries, practicing a very irenic form of Islam that encourages dialogue and understanding.
For additional information, please contact NBTS student Kimberly Trinidad, who took part in the program in January of 2017. Kimberly’s e-mail address is ktrinidad@students.nbts.edu. The late Rev. Franco Juricic, who also traveled Oman through this program, called the experience “life changing!” For an article about Franco’s time in Oman click here, and for photos from the 2017 trip, please click here.
