D.Min. Concentration in Missiology and Global Christianity

Efforts to advance the mission of God and build Christian communities in a diversity of cultural contexts around the world are a prominent institutional legacy of New Brunswick Theological Seminary.  The D.Min. concentration in Missiology & Global Christianity seeks to reconsider these efforts and re-envision the church’s generative connections to Christian communities across far-ranging geographies and among various cultures.

This concentration develops in students a deeper knowledge of textual, historical, and theological practices related to missions, and it is designed for those who minister in multiple global contexts or the diverse communities of North America. Students will gain a deeper awareness and appreciation for ethnic and racial identities, cultures, consciousness, theologies, histories, heritage, struggles, and hopes. 

Each student will also be assigned a faculty advisor who will guide them and provide feedback throughout the program.

Graduates of the Missiology and Global Christianity concentration will:

• Critically engage the history of missions and World Christianity, and missiological issues and perspectives as essential to understanding and working in particular global and local settings;
• Demonstrate content literacy and critical reflection on the diversity of the impact of globalization in global and local settings, fostering an awareness of commonality and differences and power dynamics;
• Design, plan, and implement site-specific global-conscious and local-contextual ministries in relation to broader theories and theologies, and with sensitivity to peoples, identities, sites, and cultures; 
• Utilize ministry sites as learning environments for critical self-reflection and consideration of theological and missiological perspectives in order to foster just, context and culture specific Christian witness and service.

Missiology and Global Christianity – Curricular Framework

The curriculum consists in two years of regular course work that culminates in the preparation of a final project and thesis in the candidate’s third and final year.
