Alumni Association
Mission Statement
The purpose of the New Brunswick Theological Seminary Alumni Association is to foster a spirit of loyalty, reciprocal engagement, and to promote the general welfare of the Association members and NBTS. The association will exist to support the alumni goals to strengthen the ties among alumni near and far, current students, churches, communities, and the goals of the Seminary.

Secretary The Secretary will record the minutes, votes, and action items of all Alumni Council meetings and monitor the attendance records of its members. These minutes will be received by members of the Alumni Council no later than two weeks following the most recent meeting. If the Secretary cannot attend a scheduled Alumni Council meeting, the Secretary will notify the President and the Director of Alumni Relations of the anticipated absence and obtain a replacement for the purpose of the meeting. Alumni Council notes will be handed over to the NBTS Archivist at the end of the academic year. |

Committees & Chairs
Nominating CommitteeThis committee will recommend candidates from all active alumni members for office to be elected by the Association for a two-year term. |

Honors & Awards CommitteeMembership: The Honors & Awards Committee will consist of five to seven members. The President will serve as a non-voting ex-officio member, as will the Director of Alumni Relations. The Chair is appointed by the committee and will be a member of the Alumni Council, either as an existing member or one to be appointed as an at-large member. The Chair will work with the President and the Director of Alumni Relations to choose Committee members whose experience and perspective will offer objective assessment of candidate qualifications. Members will serve for two years, with eligibility for appointment to another two-year term. Duties: The Committee will recommend to the Board nominees for the following awards:
The Committee will follow the approved committee rules and procedures on record in the Office of Alumni Relations to fulfill its duties. It is the prerogative of the Committee to decline to name an honoree for any awards in any given year the Committee determines the nominees are not appropriately qualified. The Committee, in consultation with the Director of Alumni Relations, may recommend the creation of a new award or honor to the Alumni Council. |

Student Recruitment & Retention CommitteeMembership: The Student Recruitment & Retention Committee will consist of members drawn from graduates of all regions. The President will serve as non-voting ex-officio member, as will the Director of Alumni Relations. Committee members will serve for a term of two years, with eligibility for appointment to another two-year term. Alumni from all geographic regions are welcome to serve. The Chair will be appointed by the committee. The Chair will be a member of the Alumni Council, either as an existing member or one to be appointed as an at-large member. Duties: Committee members will assist the Seminary in attracting and retaining eligible, high-quality students. Committee members will work in concert with the Director of Alumni Affairs and Director of Admissions in carrying out specific recruitment and retention plans each year. |

Financial Stewardship CommitteeThis committee maintains the Association’s annual budget and encourages alumni to choose from the various giving vehicles available to them to financially strengthen the Alumni Association and the Seminary. The goals of the committee are to:

Social Action CommitteeMembership: The Social Action Committee will consist of members drawn from all regions. The President will serve as a non-voting, ex-officio member, as will the Director of Alumni Relations. Members will serve for a term of two years with eligibility for appointment to another two-year term. The Chair will be appointed by the committee. The Chair will be a member of the Alumni Council, either as an existing member or one to be appointed as an at-large member. Duties: Committee members will work in concert with the Director of Alumni Relations and Members of the Social Action Committee will assist the Seminary in carrying out its mandate to engage in Christ-centered witness by identifying relevant social justice issues in the local community, raising awareness among members of the NBTS community, and advocating for positive courses of action that will address such issues on local and state levels. The Social Action committee will also engage with local churches and change agents to seek understanding and lend support to relevant social justice initiatives. Areas of focus include but are not limited to community-oriented ministry, legislative campaigns, anti-violence initiatives, and economic empowerment programs. |

Care CommitteeMembership: The Care Committee will consist of members drawn from all regions. The President will serve as a non-voting ex-officio member, as will the Director of Alumni Relations. Members will serve for a term of two years, with eligibility for appointment to another two-year term. The Chair will be appointed by the committee members. The Chair will be a member of the Alumni Council, either as an existing member or one to be appointed as an at-large member. Duties: The Cares Committee is the pastoral care arm of the Alumni Association and will support alumni by communicating with those who are in bereavement, experiencing illness, or other difficulties. This committee will ensure that information, education, and personal touch are made available to all alumni. This work will be done in conjunction with the Office of Alumni Affairs. |

Communications CommitteeMembership: The Communications Committee will consist of members drawn from all regions. The President will serve as a non-voting ex-officio member, as will the Director of Alumni Relations and the Director of Communications. Members will serve for a term of two years, with eligibility for appointment to another two-year term. The Chair will be appointed by the committee members. The Chair will be a member of the Alumni Board, either as an existing member or one to be appointed as an at-large member. Duties: This committee is responsible to for ensuring that current information is regularly sent to all alumni via social media, snail mail, and email. It will work to collect pertinent information from alumni in all its diversity across the regions and the years to share with the entire alumni body. Additionally, this information will be communicated to the Seminary Communications department for potential marketing opportunities. This committee will work to populate the Seminary newsletters. |

Coordinator of Regions In a spirit of fellowship and service to alumni and the Seminary, regional chapters will be organized through the Coordinator of Regions. Chapters across the country will gather to engage in activities within a specific geographic area. Chapters may adopt guidelines in various forms by which they will operate and conduct business. Regional Chapters operate under the umbrella of the NBTS Alumni Association Council. |
