Minister – Dunningville Reformed Church – Allegan, MI
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Minister of the Word and Sacraments will be an Ordained or Commissioned Pastor in the Reformed Church of America. The Minister will assume the leadership role of the Dunningville Reformed Church. The Minister will team with the Dunningville Reformed Consistory and Congregation to fully present Jesus Christ to our church family, community, and world. The Minister will also demonstrate Christian love for others and his conduct will reflect Biblical principles and values.
JOB OBJECTIVES
A. Will set the Spiritual tone for the ministry in the Dunningville Reformed Church.
B. Will make decisions with the Consistory using scripture as the ultimate authority.
C. To challenge the congregation in its vision for ministry within the membership and as a body of the believers in our world.
D. To present the Word of God so it lifts up Jesus Christ and the congregation. This involves the following priorities:
*To fuller develop our personal and corporate relationship with Christ.
*To fuller develop our relationships to each other.
*To reach out into the local community, our nation, and the world with the Word as faithful Christians.
GENERAL AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES
*As Minister serve as the President of Dunningville Reformed Church.
*Administer the Word and Sacraments as directed by the RCA and the Book of Church Order.
*Prepare sermons and interpret the Bible to better convey its true meaning.
*Conduct worship services and provide input on music and scripture.
*Incorporate the Lord’s Prayer, Apostles’ Creed, Heidelberg Catechism, Et al. into the services.
* Assist the Board of Elders on other sermon/worship activities as required.
*Preside over Congregational, Consistory, Elder, and Deacon Committee meetings.
*Provide guidance for other committees as required.
*As a member of the Zeeland Classis participate in required Classis meetings and functions.
*Cooperate with local Ministoriums.
SPECIFIC AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Preaching:
*Preaching the majority of services as defined by contract negotiations.
*Preaching at special services: Maundy Thursday, Thanksgiving service and/or others.
*Officiating at funeral/wedding services:
a. Dunningville members and congregants.
b. Others with the Board of Elders’ approval.
c. Officiating at weddings with the Board of Elders’ approval.
Pastoral Care:
*Coordinate and oversee the Consistory Congregational Care Groups.
*Make hospital visits on members and congregants of DRC.
*Make bereavement calls on members and congregants of DRC.
*Respond to crisis and emergency calls from members and congregants of DRC.
*Be available for informal consultation with members and congregants of DRC.
*Call on congregant widows and widowers a minimum of twice a year.
*Call on shut-ins a minimum of four times a year.
*Conduct follow up visits with potential members with Consistory member assistance.
*Submit a weekly office hour schedule and be willing to schedule evening appointments as needed.
Counseling:
*Provide premarital counseling for those requesting marriage.
* Provide basic interventional grief and crisis counseling.
*Refer counselees to professional counselors as required.
Teaching:
*Assist the Education/Outreach Elder in developing and coordinating educational programs.
*Serve as a resource for monthly potluck presentations.
*Teach a series in the Sunday school program if required.
*Provide a new member class, etc. when the need arises.
Other:
* Provide office volunteers with pertinent worship/bulletin information in a timely manner.
*Attend church activities.
PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
*The Minister will lead an active prayer life and read the scriptures.
*The Minister will demonstrate his love for God and others.
*The Minister will participate in studies designed to improve his job skills.
*The Minister will be provided a vacation period.
EVALUATION
*The Minister reports to the Dunningville Reformed Church Consistory and will be evaluated annually in November or December. The Consistory will seek input from volunteer staff, lay leaders, and random congregants for the evaluation. Following the evaluation process the health of our church and the effectiveness of our ministries at Dunningville Reformed Church will be discussed by the Dunningville Reformed Consistory.
