Memorial Service for David W. Waanders

David W. Waanders, age 75, died at home on May 23rd. David was a long-time resident of Piscataway, NJ. He was born in Iowa and raised in Western Michigan. He earned degrees from Hope College, New Brunswick Theological Seminary, and Princeton Seminary. He was an ordained minister of the Reformed Church in America and Professor of Pastoral Care at New Brunswick Theological Seminary for almost 40 years. He was dedicated to helping students develop pastoral skills. During that time he was also a pastoral counselor at Trinity Counseling Service in Princeton.
David will be remembered as a gentle, nurturing father and grandfather, a loving and faithful husband, and a caring, creative, and wise teacher and advisor. He brought a keen sense of humor to whatever he did. Over the years he enjoyed playing French Horn, reading, rooting for his favorite teams, and gardening.
David was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Janet, his daughter Christine and her husband Ivan Haskell, his daughter Emily and her husband Adam Sena, grandchildren Evan and Aliece Sena and Nicholas and Julian Haskell, his brother Gerald Waanders, sisters-in-law Harriet Waanders and Elizabeth DuMez, and nephews Alex and Tim DuMez and Jason Waanders. Visiting hours will be Friday, June 3, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at First Reformed Church, 9 Bayard St., New Brunswick, NJ.
The Memorial Service will be Saturday, June 4 at 11:00 a.m. at New Brunswick Theological Seminary, 35 Seminary Place, New Brunswick, NJ; Lunch/Reception immediately following the service.
