Search Committee Updates
June 6, 2017
We’re pleased to announce that the Board has unanimously voted to appoint Rev. Dr. Micah McCreary as the next president of New Brunswick Theological Seminary. Through the search process, the committee sought someone who had a sense of NBTS’s opportunities and challenges, is a visionary leader with a pastor’s heart, has financial competencies and fundraising abilities, and has experience in cultivating diversity and leading our efforts in being an anti-racist institution. From the first meeting, Dr. McCreary impressed us with his gifts, experience, and calling to lead NBTS. Dr. McCreary is a pastor, psychologist, and was a tenured associate professor at Virginia Commonwealth University. We are excited to see how NBTS will blossom under Dr. McCreary’s leadership as we enter a new season of ministry. He will begin on July 15, 2017, and we look forward to introducing him to our community.
A press release with more information will be forthcoming.

The search committee has completed its preliminary round of interviews and has narrowed the list to those with whom they’ll do a second, more intensive interview. During this period the committee received two additional CVs and is reviewing them to see if they are candidates who should be considered. The committee continues to work towards its goal of presenting a final candidate to the Board of Trustees at its meeting at the end of April.

January 26, 2017
The search committee met on January 22, 2017 and did a preliminary review of the candidates, with particular attention to the qualifications necessary for the position. The committee will continue receiving applications until the position is filled. The committee also discussed the qualification that the next president be willing to be credentialed as a minister in the Reformed Church in America (RCA), if not already held. The committee affirmed that the desire is to find the best qualified person to lead the seminary, and NBTS is committed to being ecumenical in its scope. Therefore people from the breadth of the Christian tradition are encouraged to apply. Since NBTS is an agent of the General Synod of the RCA and operates under its umbrella, the next president will also need to work with and through the General Synod in her/his leadership of the seminary. Therefore, if a candidate is not already credentialed as a minister in the RCA, she/he needs to be willing to do so. This will help in an important aspect of the next president’s leadership of the seminary. The committee will meet again the week of January 30 to select those with whom they will begin interviews.
January 13, 2017
The search committee will begin reviewing the CVs that have been received at its next meeting, which will be the week of January 16. After this the committee will schedule preliminary interviews with those who are qualified for the position. The committee is developing an interview guide to use in the initial interviews with candidates, and they are developing a list of the significant attributes and qualities that are sought in the next president. The committee will continue to receive and review CVs until the position is filled.
December 6, 2016
The search committee has developed a profile for the seminary and president’s position that is being used in advertising, which is available through a link on this webpage. Ads have been placed in a number of venues to solicit interest in the position, and CVs are beginning to be received. The committee has begun work in considering the most important qualities that the next president will need to lead NBTS into the future. The committee’s goal is to present a candidate for the position to the Board of Trustees at their April 27-28, 2017 meeting. Additionally, we are pleased to report that the Rev. Marlo Davis, a minister in the African Methodist Episcopal Church, was added to the search committee as a student representative. This was done to ensure that the diversity of the NBTS community is well represented.
