Raising Leaders: Rev. Kevin White Becomes Director of Admissions
March 4, 2025
In November of 2024, Rev. Kevin White became the new Director of Admissions at NBTS. His road to this position took him from Wall Street to seminary.
After graduating with a B.S. in Finance from Siena College, near Albany, New York, Rev. White was invited to join the discount brokerage firm of Quick & Reilly. He found success executing trades and selling financial products. In love with the Wall Street scene, he never thought he would leave the industry.
Change of Plans
Then he met Isabella, who later became his wife. She invited him to visit the Greater Allen A.M.E Cathedral (GAC), in Jamaica, Queens, New York. Through that ministry, Rev. White committed his life to Christ, a decision that changed his life trajectory.
Catching him by surprise, Rev. White felt called to attend seminary. While a stay-at-home dad, he earned his M.Div. at Alliance Theological Seminary, a seminary connected to Nyack College in New York. Upon graduation, he was invited to join the admissions team. Exceeding seminary enrollment goals by 150%, Rev. White became the Institutional Director of Admissions for both undergraduate and graduate programs.
Leading Church Leaders to NBTS
Before applying for the NBTS Director of Admissions position, Rev. White held the Seminary in high regard. He first heard praise for NBTS from his two spiritual advisors. Then he realized how many people in his own church context were NBTS graduates, who spoke of the transformation they experienced as students.
In his first months as Director of Admissions, Rev. White is learning more about what makes NBTS a unique place for theological education. He has clearly witnessed that the Seminary lives into its motto: “Think Critically • Act Justly • Lead Faithfully.” One thing Rev. White personally appreciates is how all Seminary personnel and students learn the history behind the dynamics we experience in Church and society today. This knowledge equips church leaders to better meet the needs of the world.
Rev. White describes the climate of NBTS as one of inclusivity: “This is an institution where everyone who wants a higher theological education is welcome.” One way he hopes to increase enrollment at NBTS is to grow partnerships with churches and nonprofits. Rev. White is exploring how NBTS can serve these institutions (e.g. pulpit supply, guest speakers, workshops), and how these organizations can encourage people in their circles to pursue theological education at NBTS.
NBTS President Micah McCreary has no doubt that Rev. White will meet his ambitious enrollment goals. Not only does Rev. White understand the tools of the field, but he is a team player: “His abilities to develop and maintain relationships, as well as connect with staff, faculty, administrators, and other NBTS constituencies, has been remarkable.”
For Rev. White, it is an honor to walk alongside both young adults and later career people desiring to expand their theological education: “I love to share the story of New Brunswick Theological Seminary.”
