Professor John Coakley to be Honored For His 32 Years of Service to
New Brunswick Theological Seminary

Join with the New Brunswick Theological Seminary community as we celebrate the distinguished academic career and incomparable personal ministry of Professor John Coakley on Wednesday, May 11 at 4:30 PM at the Seminary.
Dr. Coakley has been the L. Russell Feakes Memorial Professor of Church History for more than 20 years and is retiring after 32 years on the NBTS faculty. Before coming to New Brunswick, he served churches in East Walpole and West Medford Massachusetts for 10 years. Dr. Coakley is a minister of Word and Sacrament and a General Synod Professor in the Reformed Church in America. He holds degrees from Wesleyan University, Rutgers University and Harvard Divinity School.
“New Brunswick Seminary is deeply grateful for Dr. Coakley’s 32 years of faithful service as our Professor of Church History,” said Dr. Greg Mast, President of the Seminary. “He exemplifies what we hope from all who teach at NBTS – a person deeply committed to his students, his scholarship, his colleagues and his faith.”
Dr. Coakley is the author or editor of many books including Readings in World Christian History, Vol. 1 (2004), Women, Men and Spiritual Power (2006), and New Brunswick Theological Seminary: An Illustrated History (2014). He has also contributed articles to many scholarly journals and reference works including Feasting on the Word, The Encyclopedia of New Jersey and The Encyclopedia of Christianity.
