The Rev. Wes Granberg-Michaelson, General Secretary of the Reformed Church in America (RCA) from 1994 to 2009, will discuss his new book, The Soulwork of Justice: Four Movements for Contemplative Action in an in-person gathering at New Brunswick Theological Seminary (NBTS) on Friday, November 21, 2025, at 12:00 noon. The program will be jointly hosted by The Theological Writing Center and The Reformed Church Center at NBTS. The author will be signing books and will have copies of the book available for sale, and a light lunch will be available. The program will also be livestreamed on Zoom.

Granberg-Michaelson speaks about the book, published by Orbis, like this:

In a time when the imperative for social and political change consumes the committed lives of so many, learning the practices which provide grounding for one’s soul is essential to sustain this calling for the long term.  The Soulwork of Justice provides a guidebook to do so, charting movements of the inward journey which empower outward callings to flourish.  Nothing here is abstract.  Wisdom is drawn from the author’s five decades of an inward spiritual journey undergirding a lifetime of deeply engaged political and ecumenical work for radical change.  This book invites the reader into movements from self-sufficiency to belonging, from certainty to connection, from grandiosity to authenticity, and from control to trust, all leading to a life surrendered to the transforming work of God’s love in the world.

Wesley Granberg-Michaelson is a writer, speaker, and global ecumenical leader working at the intersection of faith, justice, and public life. In addition to being General Secretary of the RCA, Wes has served as a legislative assistant to Senator Mark O. Hatfield and Director of Church and Society for the World Council of Churches. He now serves on the board of the Global Christian Forum. He and his wife, Kaarin, live in Santa Fe, NM.

This program is free, although donations toward the cost of lunch will be accepted for those in-person. If you plan to attend in person please register by Monday, November 17 using the button below.
