The Reformed Church Center Discusses Working for Justice for Everyone

In the current political environment, authoritarianism is on the rise in several countries, democracy and the rule of law are often up for debate, and the growing wealth gap in several countries is creating ruling oligarchies. Food insecurity, a lack of access to health care, refusal to welcome refugees, and overt racism create conditions in our own and other countries that directly defy God’s call on all of us for how we should live. How should we respond? Does our faith as Reformed Christians have a place in the political arena?

On Wednesday, December 10, at 12:00 noon Eastern Time, the Reformed Church Center at New Brunswick Theological Seminary will host “‘What Should We Do?’ How Reformed Christians Respond to Authoritarianism. This Zoom webinar, featuring Jacqui Lewis and Wesley Granberg-Michaelson, will lead all the participants in a discussion of how Reformed Christians are called to be active in the public arena and to stand up to government that doesn’t conform with God’s justice. We will also discuss possibilities and strategies for leading our congregations.

Jacqueline J. Lewis is Senior Minister: Public Theology and Partnerships at Middle Church, a 2025 Four Freedoms Awards Laureate at the Roosevelt Institute and a Senior Democracy Fellow at the Public Religion Research Institute. Celebrated internationally for her dynamic preaching and commitment to justice, she champions racial equality, economic justice and LGBTQIA+/gender rights. Her work has been featured in major television, radio, and print media.  She hosts the “Love. Period.” podcast and is the author of several books, including Fierce Love and the Just Love Story Bible.

Wesley Granberg-Michaelson is the General Secretary Emeritus of the Reformed Church in America, having served in that role for seventeen years. In addition to his public career, which has included work in government and international ecumenism, Wes has authored ten books and countless articles. His new book, The Soulwork of Justice: Four Movements of Contemplative Action, seeks to help readers discover the depths of Christian spirituality as the foundation for one’s outward work, witness, and advocacy for justice.

This webinar, like all Reformed Church Center programs, is free and open to everyone. All participants must register, however, at this link: https://us06web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_PYdmAUJyTzK9kTsSH5dAaw
